CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County’s law library received a generous gift in memory of a local lawyer who passed on.
Ervin S. Fennell Jr. passed away on Sept. 27, 2005. According to his wife Janine Fennell, Ervin loved books. Many of the books in his law library were published well over 100 years ago.
After Ervin passed away, Janine had something of a dilemma on her hands. Ervin had accumulated a lot of books. Janine did not want to just throw them away. Ervin’s assistant talked with Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman and Dan Payne about the possibility of Janine donating the books and a barrister to the Clearfield County law library.
“Mrs. Fennell was kind enough to donate to the county a lot of law books,” said Ammerman.
Ammerman added that it was a great donation because the county basically stopped purchasing law books some time ago due to much of the material being available on the internet.
“What a great addition,” said Ammerman. “We really, very much appreciate it.”
To show the court’s appreciation, a plaque was created in memory of Ervin.
