HUSTON TOWNSHIP – A fatal accident on Friday claimed the life of a Summerhill teenager.
DuBois-based state police reported that a vehicle driven by David James Wess, 47 of Summerhill, was traveling north on state Route 153, descending a grade. While attempting to negotiate a slight left cure, David Wess reportedly lost control of his vehicle on the wet road. His vehicle traveled partially off the east edge of SR 153.
Police state that Wess apparently tried to bring the vehicle back onto the roadway. The trailer on the vehicle then rotated in a counter-clockwise manner, forcing the vehicle to do the same. The vehicle slid off the west side of SR 153 and struck a large oak tree on its right side.
Both David Wess and passenger Steven David Wess, 18, were airlifted to Altoona Hospital for treatment of severe injuries. A 16-year-old passenger was pronounced dead by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Kim Snyder.
Police were assisted by Penfield and Sandy Township Fire Departments, Bennetts Valley Emergency Medical Services, DuSan Ambulance and PennDOT.
