CURWENSVILLE – News that the Curwensville Borough had no plans to change an ordinance concerning property mainentance came as music to the ears of several people who own rental properties in the municipality Monday night.
“I don’t think this is something Curwensville Borough shoudl get into at this time or probably ever,” Curwensville Borough Council President Dave McNaul said.
McNaul added that the borough would have to bring on a full-time enforcement officer to ensure such laws were carried out.
Jeff Shaffer, one of the property owners at the meeting, said no additional inspections were needed. He said if landlords want to attract good tenants, the landlords will keep the properties in good repair.
One person who was not identified at the meeting expressed concern that he had only learned about the proposed change about one hour prior to the meeting. He said he thought the public should have been better informed.
“Something like this would never have passed in one night,” said McNaul.
Borough Solicitor Larry Seaman explained that such a change would come in the form of an ordinance. An ordinance, he said, must be advertised before being passed.
The next meeting of the Curwensville Borough Council was moved from Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. to Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
