CLEARFIELD – Isaac Butler and Michael Moyer pitched complete games for victories as the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 fall baseball team salvaged a split in doubleheaders against DuBois and Altoona over the weekend.
Butler, who hurled a seven-hitter, shut out host DuBois after giving up two earned runs in the first inning, and his mates rallied for a 3-2 extra-inning win at Showers Field Saturday.
Kyle Timchak\’s bases-loaded single drove in the tying run in the sixth, and Moyer walked to force in the winning tally in the seventh.
DuBois took the nightcap 9-0 as winner Nate Sabados and Casey Clinton combined for a three-hitter.
Moyer fashioned a two-hitter and struck out eight in beating Altoona 5-3 in the first game of Sunday\’s twinbill at the Lawrence Township Rec Park Field.
Clearfield\’s 10-hit attack included two doubles by Aaron Sayers, two singles by Luke Peterson and a two-run double by Robert Lombardo.
Altoona\’s Andy Smithmyer was too much for the hosts in the second game, spinning a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for a 9-0 victory.
Clearfield will take a 4-7 record to State College Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
