WILLIAMSPORT – The Department of Environmental Protection Monday announced the approval of an Air Quality Plan for the Bionol Clearfield LLC ethanol plant to be built in Clearfield Borough, Clearfield County.
“DEP’s air quality program staff performed a very detailed review of this application and we are satisfied that this project meets the standard of best available technology in controlling emissions from the plant,” DEP Regional Director Robert Yowell said.
DEP held a public meeting and hearing on Aug. 28 at St. Francis School in Clearfield to explain the company’s project and the air quality permitting process. Four citizens testified at the public hearing. All of the citizens who asked pertinent questions and made comments during the hearing, or in writing to DEP, have been sent written responses by the agency.
The ethanol plant, expected to produce 108 million gallons of fuel per year, will use bag houses for particulate control; low nitrogen oxide burners for nitrogen control; scrubbers and thermal oxidizers for volatile organics control; and a flare to control ethanol emissions at the loading area.
