FALLS CREEK – The DuBois Regional Airport is expected to welcome a new commercial air carrier by November or December.
That news comes from Bob Shaffer, airport manager, who gave a report to the Clearfield-Jefferson Counties Regional Airport Authority Friday morning.
Gulfstream International Airlines Inc. was selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to a July 26 order from the department.
Shaffer said Gulfstream is currently associated with Continental Airlines, but the company is working on an association with US Airways.
This means that there will little in the way of adjustment for passengers.
“There should be a seamless transition,” Shaffer said. “The traveling public should see no change.”
Gulfstream is scheduled to continue providing flights from DuBois to Pittsburgh.
For those who have reservations to fly out of the DuBois Regional Airport, the authority noted that it is a good idea to double-check to ensure that nothing has changed. This is especially important as the authority learned that Mesa Air Group Inc. will offer a different flight schedule beginning in September.
Mesa is the current commercial air service carrier at the airport and will remain in place until Gulfstream takes over.
The new schedule includes three departures and arrivals Monday through Friday, one departure and arrival on Saturdays and three departures and arrivals on Sundays. DuBois Regional Airport Marketing Director Denise Trunzo said passengers can visit the US Airways Web site for the most up-to-date information on their travel plans and to reconfirm all flight reservations.
Shaffer added that when the new carrier begins service at the airport, plans call for continuing service at the existing maintenance hangar.
“That’s a huge thing for our facility,” he said.
Plans are for Gulfstream to maintain about four to six planes each evening with the intention of possibly enhancing service in the future.
