CLEARFIELD – Fairs are a strange mix of old traditions and new ideas. This year’s Clearfield County Fair is no exception.
One of the staples of the fair is the car stand that the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department runs. Up until last year the stand was an old-model tear-down stand. This year’s version, new and sleek, was brought about through necessity.
John Lippert, chairman of the car drawing and firefighter with station four, said that they just could not get enough people to help with setting up and taking down the old stand. The new stand is a mobile unit that has enough room for the vehicle that is being raffled, the raffle bins and staff.
“The idea came from a bunch of us,” said Lippert. He added that ideas were pitched back and forth until they came up with what’s at the fair today.
“It’s a lot better than the old one and easier to set up,” said Lippert. “I like it. It’s different.
“It was a good idea.”
This year’s first prize winner has the option of one of seven different prizes or $18,000 in cash. The prizes include: from C Classic Dodge Chrysler Jeep, a 2007 Jeep Compass 4×4 or a 2007 Dodge Nitro SXT 4×4; or from Mountain Extreme Inc. a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700, a 2007 Yamaha 1100 V-Star and a 2007 Yamaha Raptor 50; or from Fred Diehl’s of Philipsburg, a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado 4WD reg. cab, or a 2007 Chevrolet Impala LS Sedan, or a 2007 Buick LaCrosse CX or a 2007 Pontiac G6 Sedan.
The drawings for these items will be at midnight on Saturday.
Second prize is an Acer Travelmate Dual Core T2300E Notebook from Eagle Haven Computers Inc. and third prize is a Maytag Neptune washer and dryer, front loaders from Grampian Hardware TV & Appliance. The drawing benefits the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department.
