CURWENSVILLE – Heavy rains in the third inning forced the VFW Teener Area VI 15-and-16 Tournament game between Curwensville and Philipsburg-Osceola to be suspended with the visitors leading 2-0 Tuesday evening.
P-O will have runners at first and second with one out when the teams return to the Curwensville Area High School Field Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
After stranding five runners in the first two innings, P-O broke through against Curwensville right-hander Sam Gardner in the third.
Gavin Luzier lined a single to right field and Paul Hahn drilled a single into left. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, P-O pitcher Colton Wrye hit a foul fly to right for an RBI and Kody Bennett bounced an infield single over the mound for the second run. Tim Martin grounded a hit, P-O\’s sixth, to left before the game was stopped.
Rain also caused a five-minute delay in the top of the second inning.
Wrye struck out three of the six batters he faced. He gave up a first-inning single to Gardner, who was thrown out by Luzier on a steal attempt.
Curwensville is 2-1 while P-O is 1-1 in the double round-robin tourney, which ends Thursday with P-O welcoming Punxsutawney (1-2) to the Powerhouse Field.
