STATE COLLEGE – Two State College American Little League all-star teams won District 5 championships on their home fields Sunday afternoon to complete a sweep of D-5 honors for the league.
The 10-and-11 team nipped State College National 3-2 for its second straight win over its cross-town rival. The SC Americans advance to the sectional tourney starting Sunday at Big Valley.
Clearfield finished 3-2 in the tourney, with its losses 10-0 to SC National and 4-3 to SC American in the elimination bracket final.
SC American\’s 9-and 10 all-stars defeated Northern Tier champ Four-Leaf Clover 17-7 in the deciding game of a best-of-three series. They\’ll move into the sectional starting Saturday at Ford City.
The District 5 champion SC American 11-and-12 All-Stars won the Section 4 title with a 19-1 victory over Kittanning at Indiana and next will compete in the Western Pennsylvania Tournament. SC American won the opener 16-4 Friday, and Four-Leaf Clover won 9-1 Saturday.
Ethan Frank drove in seven runs with two home runs and three SC American pitchers combined for a two-hitter in the 3-1/2-inning game.
