Drifton — The goal of winning a state title will have to wait at least one more year.
Buster\’s was eliminated in the loser\’s bracket semis Sunday morning, ending the tourney in a tie for 7th place, finishing at 2-2. A far cry from their 7-2 record and second place finish of a year ago.
Buster\’s had the misfortune of meeting last year\’s state champs, Bonnell\’s in their first game Sunday.
Up 4-0 after two innnings and 5-4 as the game headed to the bottom of the 6th, it looked as though Buster\’s could move on to the final 6. Unfortunately Bonnell\’s put up a 5 spot to take a 9-5 lead, and that\’s where it ended as Buster\’s failed to mount a comeback in the 7th. Chris Peacock did have a homerun and a couple of RBIs in the loss, while Kevin Billotte had a triple.
Buster\’s is still eligible for the National Championship tournament in Killeen, TX over Labor Day weekend.
