DUBOIS – With second place in the Jefferson County Legion Baseball League at stake, the Clearfield Chiefs broke a 3-3 tie with seven runs in the second inning and rolled past DuBois 18-6 at Showers Field Thursday evening.
The game had been suspended because of rain on June 27 after Clearfield had scored three runs in the first inning.
DuBois quickly knotted the score off Michael Moyer, who got the nod because Corey Bookhamer, penciled into the original starting lineup, was not available.
But Clearfield took control in the second and kept pounding away to the tune of 17 hits.
Moyer encountered little trouble the rest of the way and ended up with his best effort of the season for the Chiefs. The right-hander hurled a four-hitter and allowed only one earned run.
The runs and hits were season highs for the Chiefs, won climbed to 9-7 and dropped DuBois to 8-8.
James Zimmermann and Brandon Evans rapped three hits apiece for manager Sid Lansberry\’s club. Adam Jury, Kyle Kline and Wil Bacharach chipped in with two each. Doubles by Zimmermann and Jury were the lone extra base blows.
Kline and David Welker drove in three runs apiece, while Evans and Aaron Sayers had pairs of RBIs.
Moyer\’s complete game was important since Clearfield, 16-8-1 overall, is home against Reynoldsville Saturday at 5 p.m. and has a unique doubleheader Sunday, traveling to Brookville for a 1 p.m. game and then returning to the Bison Sports Complex to take on DuBois at 6 p.m. in the makeup of Wednesday\’s rainout.
