PHILIPSBURG – The Curwensville Little League 9-and-10 All-Stars avenged a first-round loss to Philipsburg-Osceola with an 11-6 win at Homer Maney Field Tuesday evening to advance to the District 5 elimination bracket finals.
Nate Hall\’s three-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning snapped a 5-5 tie and propelled Curwensville to its second win in three games.
Tanner Elensky and Jake Stiles had two hits apiece for the winners, one of Elensky\’s a double. Sam Bressler and Jade McDermott smacked triples.
Elensky also was the winning pitcher, giving up one run and three hits in two innings after relieving Ricky Magunuson, who struck out two and walked three in four innings. Elensky had two strikeouts and two walks.
Philipsburg-Osceola, which beat Curwensville 12-5 Friday, had 14 hits to go with the five walks but scored more than one run only in the fourth inning and finished the tourney 1-2.
Tanner Lamb paced P-O with three singles. Lewis Jones, Chris Thompson and Ben Johnson each had two hits. Ben Sinclair tripled and Jones doubled.
Caleb Pepperday was the losing pitcher. Sinclair relieved in the second inning, when Curwensville scored five runs.
Manager Rich Terry\’s team will play on its home field for the first time Thursday against Milesburg, which was beaten 13-1 in four innings by Four-Leaf Clover Tuesday evening.
The winner will meet Four-Leaf Clover in the championship game at Bigler Saturday at 6 p.m. If another game is necessary, it will be played Monday.
