DUBOIS—–Take DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) off of the Curwensville High School baseball schedule and the Golden Tide have simply a great season. Then again, even after losing to the Cardinals Tuesday afternoon 6-5, the Tide still are in the midst of a very good season at 13-6 overall.
Just as on April 18th of this season, Curwensville comes up one run short against DCC who won by the same 6-5 score that day also.
The Tide fell behind quickly after one, 2-0, yesterday, but tied it up with two of their own in the top half of the third inning. However, DCC scored one in the bottom of the third and three more times in their half of the fifth. Curwensville mounted a furious seventh inning rally by scoring three runs but just couldn’t push the tying run across and dropped the contest by one run.
Andrew Welsh carried the big stick for DCC by hitting two solo home runs. One in the first and then again in the fifth. Pinch hitter Dan McNalley did a bunch of damage also when he hit a two run shot, also in the fifth inning. Cory Bloom and Brett McCracken led Curwensville with two hits each while pinch hitter Jonathan Michaels had two RBI’s on the afternoon as did designated hitter Trevor Horton.
As head coach Ryan Briskar put it afterwards, “DuBois Central just has our number right now, but maybe we will meet them down the road and get another crack at them. These guys (Curwensville) have no quit in them, so I have all the confidence in the world we will be okay with the District 9 playoffs coming up next week.”
The Tide have one regular season game left on Thursday, at Ridgway, starting at 4:15. Curwensville beat the Elkers 10-9 back on Monday, April 23rd.
