CLEARFIELD – Before you click reply on an e-mail stating you have won money in a lottery, read on about what police are saying about the newest Internet lotto scam.
State police at Clearfield received information that e-mails are being sent and responded to from a foreign company indicating a lottery has been won. The scam requests the winner pay a handling fee of upwards of $600 and send personal information as well.
Police note that correspondence is typed in broken English.
Before responding to an e-mail such as this, police ask citizens to contact them at 857-3800 for assistance.
