DUBOIS – The next meeting of the Downtown DuBois Design Committee will be on Thursday. The meeting will be held at Julio’s Tavern on the corner of Washington and Jared Street at 7 p.m.
On this month’s agenda is the window display contest to be presented on June 2 in conjunction with the DuBois Festival of the Arts. Businesses do NOT have to submit anything to be considered for the contest. Committee members will look at all the buildings in the central business district during the last week of May and make a determination. Prior winners of the contest were Scrapbook Nook (summer 2006) and the PA Academy of Cosmotology (winter 2006). Honorable mention for the winter 2006 award was Shenkle Pharmacy.
There will also be work parties organized to plant the flower barrels and clean specific areas. Downtown businesses, building owners and residents are encouraged to clean, pick up trash and weed around their own buildings. Call Design Committee Chairman Julie Stewart at 375-0772 if you have an area that you need assistance with.
The design committe is part of a larger group whose focus is the improvement of the downtown DuBois economy. The group is awaiting approval from the state on a grant that will enable the hiring of a full-time manager to market downtown, administer a grant program for exterior building improvements, recruit new businesses and help existing businesses, as well as apply for additional grants to do larger scale projects. Other committees are economic restructuring, organization and promotion.
Anyone interested in either the design committee specifically or the larger downtown group, shouldcall Julie Stewart at 375-0772.
