CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Geriatric Interest Network announces that it is sponsoring important training for various types of direct care workers on Wednesday.
This course will satisfy seven of the 12 hours of annual training mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for personal care home staff. In addition, it will provide training hours for staff of in-home care providers.
Speakers for the day-long conference will include:
— Michelle Hatten Foster, LPN, of Clearfield Colonial Courtyard on activities of daily living an instrumental activities of daily living.
— Nanette Bankes, activities coordinator at Bedford Colonial Courtyard, on social services and recreation.
— Sames R. Satur, physical therapist, Clearfield Hospital Home Health, on safe management techniques including fall and accident prevention.
— Sue Jezewski, RN/BSN, Clearfield Hospital, on infection control including universal precautions.
— Valerie Jackson and Jeanne Urban, Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc., on protective services and resident rights.
Special guest speakers will be:
— Mary Walker, RD/LDN, professor of nutrition at the Pennsylvania State University, who will speak on nutrition, food handling and sanitation.
— Satish Amirneni, MD, psychiatrist at Bright Horizons Mental HealthClinic, speaking on gerontology, including care for residents with dementia, cognitive impairment, mentally illness and mental retardation.
— Ron Melusky, central region licensing director, adult residential licensing, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, who will address newly enacted DPW personal care home regulations.
The Wednesday session will be held at the Clearfield Elks Club, BPOE No. 540, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The cost for the course is $15 per person and includes lunch. The target audience includes staff members of personal care homes, direct care workers for in-home service providers and private caregivers.
