MIDDLETOWN – Powerball’s second-tier prize will be worth up to $2 million under a special Powerball-with-PowerPlay promotion that begins with the Wednesday drawing.
PowerPlay 10X will pay up to $2 million to players who purchase the PowerPlay option and match all five white ball numbers. The $2 million prize will be awarded when a “10” is selected on the PowerPlay wheel.
Beginning with the April 4 drawing, one of the number 5 spots on the PowerPlay wheel will be replaced with a number 10. If the 10 is selected on the PowerPlay wheel during any of the Powerball drawings in April, all Powerball prizes for that drawing — except for the jackpot prize — will increase 10 times. There still will be 16 total spaces on the PowerPlay wheel during April — one number 10; three number 5s; four number 4s; four 3s; and four 2s.
As always, the PowerPlay option can be purchased for an extra $1 per Powerball play. Sales for the PowerPlay10x promotion will start Sunday, April 1.
Advance-purchase plays that include drawing dates during the promotional period are eligible for the 10X promotion.
The promotion will run for at least eight draws. However, if the PowerPlay number 10 is not selected during the eight draws in April, the promotion will continue to run until 10 is selected. If a 10 is selected during any of the eight April draws, the promotion will end with the Powerball drawing on April 28.
At the end of the promotion, the “10” will be removed from the PowerPlay wheel and the original “5” will return to that spot.
Powerball drawings are conducted from West Des Moines, Iowa, every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m., Eastern Time. Powerball tickets are sold in 31 participating jurisdictions — 29 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
