DUBOIS – DuBois City Council received a special visit at Monday night’s regular meeting of council. Clearfield County Commissioners Rex Read and Mark McCracken were in attendance.
“When the county commissioners show up, they either want something from you or have something for you,” said McCracken.
In this case, the county commissioners gave something to the city, an allocation of $250,000 of Growing Greener II funds for the last phase of the brewery project in the city. The allocation was originally announced at the Clearfield County Commissioners’ regular meeting on March 6.
City of DuBois Mayor John “Herm” Suplizio commented that this was a particular project he wanted to see finished. Suplizio thanked the commissioners for their help in the brewery project. Suplizio also added that the finished project, a medical facility of some sort, would employ between 25-50 people.
The remainder of the project includes the purchase and demolition of two outlying buildings, sewer work and a brownfield clean-up, among other things. Lance Marshall, Redevelopment Authority director, noted that the whole project will cost around $750,000.
“It’s a very important project,” said McCracken.
Commissioner Chairman Rex Read commended Suplizio’s efforts on the project, and noted that the mayor had been urging the commissioner for their help on the project.
To further progress on the project, city council also passed a resolution to file a proposal for funds in the amount of $250,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development
