CLEARFIELD – Bids were opened on Friday for the clean-up of the former Howe’s Leather Company and future site of Sunnyside Ethanol LLC in Curwensville.
Out of 11 companies that visited the site, five submitted bids. According to Rob Swales, executive director of the Clearfield County Industrial Development Authority, the lowest qualified bidder will be awarded the project at a later date.
Companies were given two potential start dates to bid on; one in the spring and one in fall.
Companies that submitted bids were:
-Rishel & Sons Inc., with a spring bid of $1,678,237 and a fall bid that is a 10-percent increase over the spring bid; Lumadue Excavating, with a spring bid of $2,192,757.10 and a fall bid of $25,000,024; KU Resources, with a spring bid of $2,881,435 and a fall bid of $2,800,00; Glen O. Hawbaker, with a spring bid of $1,985,369.50 with the same rate for the fall bid; and Gargasz Excavating, with a spring bid of $1,965,219, and no fall bid.
Swales said the bids will be subjected to review by engineers before the project is awarded.
“Overall, we’re pleased with the bids,” said Swales. He added that the projected cost of the project was $1.6 million.
The project includes the removal of approximately 30,000 cubic yards of sludge material and the placement of about 50,000 cubic yards of clean backfill.
