HERSHEY — Bison heavyweight Sean Owen sat and waited for his second-round consolation opponent.
And when the wait was over, Owen (So., 33-8) went to battle with Altoona’s Brant Clouser (Sr., 36-5). The two had met in a February dual meet, where Clouser managed a 3-1 overtime win.
Like the first go-around, Owen and Clouser headed for overtime knotted at one. Owen wasted no time, getting the takedown and the win.
Owen is guaranteed at least an eighth place medal, and will face Eric Kush (Chartiers Valley, Jr., 34-9) in the third consolation round.
Also in the hunt for medals are DuBois, seniors Nick Wykoff (37-4) and Zach Lundgren (36-7) at 112 and 160 pounds, respectively.
Wykoff fell to second-ranked Kegan Handlovic (Easton, Jr., 41-3) by a 13-3 major decision, before pulling out a 4-2 win over Kyle Cramer (Pleasant Valley, Sr., 26-10) to stay in the tournament.
Wykoff will meet Lewistown’s Matt Snyder (Jr., 41-3) in the wrestle backs.
At 160, Zach Lundgren dropped to the consolation bracket after a 6-1 loss to third-ranked Matt Ryan (Canon McMillan, Sr., 37-2).
Lundgren bounced back with an 8-3 win over Karl DeCiantis (North Allegheny, Jr., 35-8), and will square off with Ryan Dill (Red Land, Sr., 27-5) in the consys.
Semi-final and Third Round Consolation action gets under way tomorrow at 8 a.m., with the fourth consolation round to follow at 10:30 a.m.
