CLEARFIELD – District Attorney William A. Shaw, Jr. announces that a criminal complaint has been filed charging Joseph Wayne Martell of Frenchville with the November 10, 2006, armed robbery of the Clearfield Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy.
Shaw stated that the Clearfield Borough Police Department secured an arrest warrant for Martell Friday morning. Martell was located in Elk County and taken into custody with the assistance of the Ridgeway based State Police.
The complaint charges Martell with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, simple assault, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance.
Martell was arraigned at 2:45 pm by Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland who set bail at $500,000.00. Shaw stated a preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 14th.
Shaw commended the outstanding efforts of Sgt. Gregory Neeper and Assistant Chief Joe Zelenky of the Clearfield Borough Police Department for their tireless efforts in pursing this investigation.
“This was a difficult investigation from the start and these two officers did an outstanding job in apprehending this suspect,” said Shaw.
Shaw noted that armed robberies are not going to be tolerated in our community and the Clearfield Borough Police Department has established that all steps will be taken to identify and apprehend people who commit these crimes.
