DUBOIS – Are you one of the 41 million Americans who has high blood glucose levels but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes?
If so, DuBois Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes and Weight Management Center is offering a free class on pre-diabetes from 2-3 p.m. Feb. 26 in St. Camillus Hall at DRMC West. The hall is located next to the cafeteria.
People with pre-diabetes are more likely to develop diabetes within 10 years and are also more likely to have a heart attack or stroke.
Some examples of what you will learn:
— What it means to have pre-diabetes;
— Factors that increase your risk for type 2 diabetes;
— How to read a food label;
— What foods will fill you up for fewer calories;
— Healthy snack ideas;
— How to modify your recipes to lower fat;
— How to begin a walking program;
— Warm-up stretches.
The class is taught by a registered dietitian and provides practical tools and ideas you can really use.
The class is informal but informative. For details, call DRMC at 375-6161.
