FLINTON—-Senior Dani Struble scored twenty second half points to lead the sluggish Curwensville Lady Tide to a 56-33 win over Glendale Friday night in the first game of a girl/boys doubleheader.
Struble finished with a game high of 28 as the Lady Tide upped their record to 19-4. Victory number 19 sets another record for a season for Curwensville and coach Vic Gearhart.
Glendale, however, proved to be a very formidable opponent, at least in the first half as the Tide saw the effects of no games and not much practice for almost a week take it’s toll. After one quarter Glendale, 1-22 on the season, found itself even, 8-8, with the Moshannon Valley League Champions.
The Tide did manage to take a 20-13 half-time lead, but play was definitely sloppy as both squads missed some easy shots and turned the ball over numerous times.
Second half for Curwensville? No problem. They just turned to Struble to take over, and she did. Struble scored 10 in each of the last two quarters of play to help secure the victory. Curwensville outscored the Lady Vikings, coached by John Matchock, 36-20 in the second half. Jackie White helped out with 9 for the Lady Tide while Kristen Gates paced Glendale with 12 on senior night.
Glendale ends the season with a 1-23 record while the Lady Tide have more business to tend to. They take on Elk County Catholic (ECC) tonight for the Allegheny Mountain League title (AML) at the DuBois Middle School. Tip off is set for 6pm. ECC beat Curwensville in early December 51-47 in St.Mary’s. The Lady Tide then have a home date with Moniteau this coming Wednesday in the first round of the District 9 AA playoffs. Game time is 7pm at Patton Hall.
