CLEARFIELD – Joan Robinson McMillen has announced her candidacy for Clearfield County Commissioner on the Republican ticket.
Joan Robinson McMillen stated that as a full-time commissioner, she would work to promote high quality, high paying and family-supporting jobs throughout Clearfield County.
“Clearfield has a lot to offer to the residents and business we just have to work together with a vision for our future,” she said.
“The future of Clearfield County is dependent upon the county’s leaders working together to promote strong economic development. I feel people are tired of the same old talk what they want and need are jobs.”
McMillen stated she is running as a citizen’s politician.
“I believe in term limits as they promote decisions that are based on what is best for the citizens of Clearfield County not any special interest. If I am given the opportunity to serve I will limit myself to two terms as commissioner.”
After graduation from college, McMillen returned home to Clearfield and worked in her family’s business, Robinson’s Men Shop. “It is my years working in a small, local retail store that has given me a strong work ethic and vision for the need for job, jobs, jobs in our area. If folks are employed, they take more pride and ownership in their community. My main focus as commissioner will be to promote our county as a viable place for employment.”
McMillen stated that she has seen how the lack of employers can affect numerous other small businesses in the area.
“We need employment opportunities with wages that will attract young families to our area. Young families bring growth both economically but also socially.”
Joan Robinson McMillen, her husband Kevin, and their son, Harrison, reside in Clearfield. McMillen was born and raised in Clearfield and is the daughter of Belber and Jacqueline Robinson of State College, formerly of Clearfield. She is a 1975 graduate of Clearfield Area High School and a 1980 graduate of Susquehanna University where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and anthropology.
McMillen is currently the marketing coordinator of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. in Clearfield. She is currently serving a term on the Clearfield Borough Council, representing First Ward. During her time on council, she has served as chairman of the Planning and Community Development Committee and as co-chair of the Downtown Lighting Fund.
“As a mother of a 7-year-old son, I know that we have a responsibility to our children to move Clearfield County into the future. This will require positive changes.”
