UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State New Musical Theatre Festival in its inaugural season will present two new works of musical theatre during April on the University Park campus. The purpose of the festival is to promote new works of musical theatre in a creative, educational and theatrical environment. Each musical work will have one week of rehearsal culminating in two free performances in reading format. The composers and lyricists will be in residence at University Park working with Penn State students and faculty in this creative process. The works chosen for the 2007 season are as follows:
— “Out of the Blue,” by composer Jenny Geiring and lyricist Laura Harrington, at 7 p.m. Tues., April 17, and 5:05 p.m. April 18 in the Pavilion Theatre.
— “The Alchemists,” by composer/lyricist Peter Mills, with book by Cara Reichel, at 7 p.m. Tues., April 24, and 5:05 p.m. April 25, in The Citizens Bank Theatre.
