UNIVERSITY PARK – Last year several Penn Staters sat in the “hotseat,” opposite celebrity host Meredith Vieira, and tested their trivia skills for a shot at becoming millionaires.
Wednesday night, Betsy Whitney, a May 2006 graduate in advertising/public relations, is scheduled to make her appearance on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire,” and on Feb. 16 information sciences and technology senior Mike Markovich takes his turn on the nationally syndicated game show.
Whitney, an advertising sales assistant for Seventeen magazine in Manhattan, didn’t have far to travel for the “Millionaire” taping in New York. In her biographical information provided to the show’s producers, she mentioned that she is making the transition into the “real world” and realizes she is growing up because she’s “not buying plastic furniture anymore!” She also said that if she did well on the show, she would like to take her whole family on an Italian vacation to celebrate her parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. Whitney is originally from The Woodlands, Texas.
Markovich and Penn State junior Aaron Wynkoop, both from southwestern Pennsylvania, originally were selected to compete for college tuition funds during a special “College Week” edition of the show in November 2006. Wynkoop’s turn aired on Nov. 20, but due to time constraints, Markovich’s appearance was scheduled for Feb. 16.
