DUBOIS – A Missouri man remains in good condition at Altoona Regional Health System after a five-vehicle accident closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Sandy Township Tuesday afternoon.
State police at DuBois said Gerald Luchini, 53, of Weedville was stopped in the right lane for a previous accident when Woodrow Johnson, 61, of Marquand, Mo., was unable to stop in time.
Both Johnson and a passenger in his vehicle, Larry Matlock, 33, of Marquand, were trapped inside Johnson’s tractor-trailer.
The Luchini box truck continued on, hitting the back of tractor-trailers driven by Jeffrey Edwards, 25, of Toledo, Ohio, and Joseph Pierce, 36, of Ocala, Fla., in the back. He hit a tractor-trailer driven by Michael Adkins-Grayson, 23, of Detroit, in the front.
Johnson and Matlock were extricated from the tractor-trailer by the Sandy Township Fire Department.
Johnson was transported to DuBois Regional Medical Center-West for treatment of injuries. Matlock was taken to Altoona Regional Health System where he remains in good condition.
Police had to close the highway for about three and one-half hours after the accident Tuesday.
