HARRISBURG – On Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil will emerge from his home on Gobbler’s Knob, look for his shadow, and issue his official prognostication for the rest of winter.
People everywhere will await Punxsutawney Phil’s Groundhog Day forecast — and many will actually stand outside in the cold all night to find out whether we’ll have six more weeks of winter. But, not everyone has to wait for Phil’s forecast that way. Check out visitPA.com on Groundhog Day for a live Web cast.
Visitors to a special section of the site, will be able to scan Phil’s haunt using two Web cameras positioned above the stage where he will make his appearance. A third camera is positioned behind the viewing area where the crowd will gather. After a short wait in queue, users will be able to control the cameras, zooming and panning over the action.
In conjunction with the Web cams, the Pennsylvania Tourism Office will feed live footage of the event with full sound. The hours for the live feed are 7-7:45 a.m. on Friday.
In addition to the high-tech features, this special Groundhog Day section of visitPA.com is filled with information about the groundhog legend, including how the tradition evolved from its European roots.
