PHILIPSBURG – A Seventh Street fire scene was burglarized between Jan. 6 and Sunday, according to Philipsburg-based state police.
Nicholas Flory lived in the apartment that had caught fire and been deemed unlivable.
The door to the apartment was left open by fire personnel, according to police. An unknown person then entered Flory’s apartment through that open door. Once inside the person rummaged through the living room and bedroom areas of the apartment. Items were taken and the person fled the scene.
The value of the items taken was around $1,376.
UPDATE:
Police added that it is not the responsibility of the fire department to secure the property, but it is the responsibility of the landlord. The report stated that the landlord failed to secure the property after the fire.
