CLEARFIELD – Rex D. Read of Lawrence Township announces his candidacy for re-election as Clearfield County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket. Read is currently serving his first term as commissioner.
Clearfield County is on the threshold of the most positive developments in years. Each day we come closer to the reality of the River Hill Power Plant in Karthaus. Not just one, but two companies are vying to construct the first ethanol plant, not just in Clearfield County but in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Combined, these three major developments are bringing hundreds of millions of dollars of investments as well as several hundred permanent, family-sustaining jobs into Clearfield County.
Prior boards of commissioners talked about upgrading the county 911 system and bringing the tourism promotion of the county under local control. This board stopped talking and did something about it.
Read said, “The old 911 system was held together by duct tape and Velcro. It should have been replaced years earlier. Clearfield County citizens are now served by a state-of-the-art 911 system that can be updated and expanded as the needs of the county grow.”
With the support of almost all of the municipalities within the county, the current board of commissioners named the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority the tourist promotion agency for the county. Since 2005, the CCRTA has been successful in promoting the county and its many assets, not just in Pennsylvania but around the world.
Four years ago, the prior board of commissioners voted to withdraw from North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission. Read said, “I have spent countless hours working with commissioners and representatives from Jefferson, Elk, Cameron, McKean, and Potter counties to bring about a positive change in the management and structure of North Central. My leadership and effort has kept Clearfield County a part of this important organization.”
Read serves as vice-chairman of North Central Pennsylvania Regional and Planning Commission, treasurer of the Clearfield/Jefferson Heroin Task Force, is a member of the Clearfield County Conservation District and a member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Read is a 1971 graduate of Clearfield Area High School and a 1977 graduate of Penn State University, DuBois. He is a life-long resident of Lawrence Township, Clearfield County, and an active member of the Pine Grove Bethel Presbyterian Church, where he has served as both an elder and a deacon. Read and his wife, Claudia, have been married 29 years and have two daughters, Marjorie and Rebecca.
“I believe that success breeds success. The success we have had in Clearfield County the last three years will breed new and exiting opportunities and challenges. I look forward to meeting those challenges as your commissioner for the next four years.”
