CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville School District Board of Directors adopted a resolution Monday night ensuring that taxes in the 2007-2008 fiscal year will not be raised above the 5 percent inflation index.
According to a press release, the index is established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Under Act 1, a school district must either approve a preliminary budget in February or adopt a resolution 110 days prior to the date of the election preceding the upcoming fiscal year. The resolution must state that the board will not raise local property taxes for the following year by more than the index.
By adopting the resolution, the district can now follow a more traditional budget adoption timeline by making its budget available in May. The board can then consider its final budget at the board’s regular meeting in June.
