CLEARFIELD – The Women’s Health Task Force of Clearfield County inaugurated the new year with plans to expand membership, a list of monthly column topics and preparations for the annual Spring Retreat, set for June.
“We are always looking for new members and their ideas and encourage membership at events and through our news column but, now we want to specifically target civic groups, healthcare, schools and businesses to send representatives to the task force,” said facilitator Andrea Bressler.
Tentative column topics for part of the year will include eating disorders, autism, travel diseases, cholesterol, melanoma prevention and children’s dental care.
Members also chose to highlight the new HPV vaccine, which is given to girls and young women ages 9-26 to prevent cervical cancer.
“Because this is a new vaccination and so important, we think it’s important to provide information,” Bressler noted.
The annual retreat is scheduled for June 15 at Bethany Retreat Center in Frenchville, organizer Mary Walker reported. The event draws women of all ages for a day of educational sessions focusing on physical, mental and spiritual health. A complete list of programs and faculty is expected to be finalized soon, she added.
The task force will meet next Feb. 1 at noon in the auditorium of the Clearfield County Multi Service Center, Leonard Street, Clearfield. Anyone is welcome to attend.
