CLEARFIELD – Though it’s early in the year, plans are under way for the 2007 American Heart Association’s Clearfield County Heart Walk.
Shelley Spicher, intake and assessment coordinator for Clearfield Hospital’s Rehabilitation Department and chairperson of the Heart Walk, said this year’s event is scheduled for Sept. 22 at Parker Dam State Park.
The event raises funds for heart disease and stroke research and education. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Clearfield County residents, according to information provided by the hospital.
“We’re excited about this year’s event and want it to be the best ever. Our goal is $25,000, so we’re counting on the community to show support for this worthy cause … let’s work together to defeat heart disease,” Spicher said.
Businesses and individuals support the Heart Walk by forming walk teams of employees, family members, friends and others.
There are also three levels of corporate sponsorship, beginning with the major sponsor level that requires a donation of at least $1,000.
Other corporate sponsorship opportunities include supporting sponsor ($200-$999), or in-kind sponsor ($199 and under, door prize and food donations).
All sponsorship levels offer public recognition.
Sixteen teams participated in the 2006 event. These teams raised a total of $10,763 with Clearfield Hospital’s Fit for Life team raising $3,431 to win the traveling trophy for the third year in a row.
Eleven Clearfield County businesses participated last year by being sponsors. The total sponsorship for 2006 was $5,150, for a total of $15,913 for the 2006 Heart Walk.
