CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging officials are forging ahead with the recently implemented Nursing Home Transition Program. which has helped 13 clients return to their homes from institutions.
According to CCAAA Executive Director John Kordish, the state Department of Aging set a goal of transitioning 19 persons by June.
“We are well ahead of the curve, thanks to aggressive action by our staff and that means people are remaining in their homes, receiving the care they need, right where they want to be,” he said at a recent governing board meeting.
The effort is a sister program to the Medical Assistance Waiver Program, which funds home care for income and health eligible clients.
Kordish reported a hold-up in Harrisburg for funding the waiver and NHT programs. Payments for the latter will probably not be released until June so operation costs will be paid from other sources in the interim. No client services will be disrupted, he noted.
“We have received copies of the invoices for payment for the waiver program for June through October. They total more than $537,000 and, while that’s a significant number, it is 44 percent of actual nursing home costs. This is very much a win-win situation for the folks who are served and taxpayers,” he added.
