PUNXSUTAWNEY – Capt. David W. Neal, commanding officer, of Troop C of the Pennsylvania State Police, is asking drivers to be extra cautious while traveling throughout the commonwealth on the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The holiday season is eagerly awaited and anticipated by young and old alike, Neal said, asking that drivers not let a moment of carelessness turn this season into a tragic memory of an automobile crash. Let the spirit of Christmas, not the spirits, govern your driving.
Troopers will be aggressively patrolling our roadways, placing special emphasis on driving under the influence, along with controlling the speed of traffic to help make our highways safer over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Police remind motorists that the area has already experienced adverse driving conditions this winter, and drivers should be prepared to deal with hazardous winter driving at any time.
Drivers should ensure their car is prepared for winter driving with good tires, good windshield wipers and good anti-freeze. It is also a good idea to carry a vehicle emergency kit that contains items such as warning devices (flares), anti-skid, a blanket and a shovel.
