CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council is against the proposed Camp Hope Run Landfill.
Council voted unanimously Thursday night to oppose the landfill and attend the Local Municipal Involvement Process meeting next month.
“I feel we are desperately against the landfill,” said Joan McMillen, First Ward, noting her fears of truck traffic.
Barry Reddinger, Fourth Ward, said, “I really don’t think that we need it.”
“The whole idea of turning Central Pennsylvania into a huge dump is ridiculous,” said Rodger Baumgardner, Third Ward.
“I’m definitely against the landfill,” added Council President Jim Leitzinger, Third Ward.”
The borough is hopeful that more information will be available about the potential harms and/or benefits of the proposed construction the next council committee meetings.
Council rescheduled them to 6:30 p.m. so that interested council members can attend the LMIP on Jan. 11.
Council voted to oppose the landfill and send the Department of Environmental Protection council’s intent to attend the LMIP in a unanimous voice vote.
Councilman Phillip Biancuzzo, Fourth Ward, was absent.
