CLEARFIELD – With the Local Municipal Involvement Process for the proposed Boggs Township landfill coming up in January, area municipalities that could be affected by the proposed landfill will have a decision to make on where they stand on the issue.
On Tuesday, the Lawrence Township Supervisors stated their opinion on the issue.
“We are very much opposed to this landfill,” said William Lawhead, Lawrence Township Supervisor chairman.
Lawhead said that the issue that bothers the potential truck traffic on state Route 879 at the Park Avenue exit. He said that since January 2003 to November 2006, there have been 33 accidents at the exit area and 1 death, according to records obtained from Lawrence Township Police Chief Jeff Fink. Lawhead said that the supervisors feel the added truck traffic will place additional burden the Lawrence Township Police and emergency medical services.
Lawhead said the supervisors will be in attendance at the January LMIP meeting to voice their concerns.
