RIDGWAY – State police are warning area businesses to beware a “flim-flam” scam.
Capt. David W. Neal, commanding officer of Troop C of the state police, is cautioning local business owners that quick-change con artists are operating in the Troop C. area.
The most common scheme utilized by the perpetrators involves exchanging large denomination currency for small bills and distracting the cashier or disputing the amount of change received so that more money is stolen by the con artists.
Actors have been known to target our area in the spring and summer months, and this year appears to be no different. Businesses should implement or review their existing currency exchange policies so that all cashiers are aware of this scam.
If you are a victim or an attempt has been made to scams your business, obtain all descriptive information relating to the perpetrator(s) and their vehicle, and contact your local police department.
