Second crappie tournament won with big ol\’ fish

CURWENSVILLE – Landing one of the biggest crappies in Curwensville Lake enabled Rich and Scott Mislevy of Patton to blow away the competition in the Second Annual Alan Bloom Memorial Crappie Tournament sponsored by the Curwensville Anglers Restocking Program Saturday.

The 17 1/2-inch, 2.65-pounder reeled in by Rich Mislevy was heavier than the three-crappie totals of almost all of two-person teams. They split the $2,000 first prize for their 4.47 pounds.

Second place, worth $1,000, went to John Gallo of Janesville and Josh Gates of Glasgow for their total of 3.20.

Defending champions Joe DiTosti Sr. and Joe DiTosti Jr. of Altoona had to settle for third place and $500 with a 3.06 total that just edged out Rich Gill and Alex Reinke of Glen Richey. Their trio of entries weighed 3.04 pounds.

Individual trophies, courtesy of Champions Choice of Curwensville, were awarded to each member of the top four teams.

Teams finishing fifth through 10th received $100 checks donated by area businesses. They were:

Fifth (2.79 pounds), Joe and Aaron Brzezinski of the Clearfield-Tyrone Highway; sixth (2.67), Andrew and Andrew J. Getsy of Patton; seventh (2.66), Scott and Zac Wagner of Clearfield; eighth (2.59), Alan McGovern and Tim McGonigal of Karthaus; ninth (2.57), Bill Swoope Sr. and Fawn Wallace of Mineral Springs, and 10th (2.53), Irvin Holes of LaJose and Rich Henninger of Niles, Ohio.

The event attracted 53 teams, up from 49 in the inaugural tourney. Crappies had to be alive to be weighed, and all were returned to the lake.

Sharon G. Josefik of Morrisdale was the winner of the two lawn chairs and table donated by Ron Lippart of Kurtz Lawn Care.
