IT Services Discussed at LT Supers’ Meeting

CLEARFIELD – IT services topped discussion at Tuesday’s Lawrence Township board of supervisors’ meeting.

Technicians with Morefield Communications made note that the township’s Microsoft Office 365 for employees was for Home Edition, not Business Edition.

Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner, who attended the meeting via video conference, asked about the issue with the terms and conditions.

It was noted that it’s a potential violation of the Microsoft 365 terms and conditions to use the Home Edition for business purposes.

This could cause a suspension of the Microsoft account and potentially even a termination of their agreement.

Township Manager/Assistant Treasurer Ashley Prichard indicated that the township’s computers already had Microsoft Word and Excel.

But, Morefield noted that the license for the program was only for student and home usage, not business, and the township could switch to the business license without incurring additional costs.

The cost of Morefield’s services was also discussed, namely if there were extra services added beyond what was approved last month.

The supervisors were advised the IT contract with Morefield was for all services, and there would only be additional charges if there was additional work done.

But, these additional costs would not be per month and only for the service at the time it was done.

Discussion then arose over WiFi access with Zito Media and the supervisors felt it was necessary to table action so they could further explore and deliberate the matter.

The supervisors will reconvene on Tuesday, Nov. 5, beginning at 7 p.m. for their next regular meeting.
