CURWENSVILLE – From Oct. 1 through Oct. 4, Workforce Solutions for North Central PA, in partnership with Curwensville Area School District, hosted Curwensville Career Week, an immersive career exploration event designed to inspire students of all ages to start thinking about their future careers.
The week featured a variety of interactive programs, each tailored to specific grade levels, offering engaging and educational experiences.
On Oct. 1, the event kicked off with Virtual Reality (VR) Simulated Careers for the sixth grade. Using TransfrVR headsets, students explored simulations of careers in sectors such as healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, construction, broadband and more.
This cutting-edge technology allowed students to gain hands-on experience and insights into various professions through immersive learning.
On Oct. 2, the focus shifted to the youngest learners. Kindergarten and first-grade students participated in the Carl the Career Bear program.
This initiative introduced children to the concept of careers early on, sparking conversations about what they might want to be when they grow up.
Oct. 3, fourth- and fifth-graders engaged in Industry Day with a series of presentations from local businesses and institutions.
Representatives from Phoenix Therapy, AHUG, Penn State DuBois Idea Lab North Central PA LaunchBox, and Lezzer Lumber captivated students with hands-on displays and activities, providing insight into various industries and the skills required to succeed.
To conclude the week, on Oct. 4, second- and third-graders participated in Careers on Wheels, also known as the “Touch-A-Truck” program.
Students had the chance to explore vehicles from local businesses, including Clearfield Fire and EMS, Hunter’s Garage, Clearfield’s Bookmobile, RES Coal LLC, Electric Cooperative and Lezzer Lumber.
Students were treated to presentations and even had the opportunity to blow the horn on some of the vehicles, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Colleen Prechtl, project coordinator for Workforce Solutions, played a pivotal role in organizing the week’s events, ensuring that students had meaningful and memorable career exploration experiences.
“These events provide students with the opportunity to see, touch, and experience careers firsthand, sparking curiosity and planting the seeds for future ambitions,” said Prechtl.
