JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — A 33-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 56-year-old man who had been reported missing last month, according to state police.

Kittanning-based State Police say 33-year-old Cody James Weiland, of Rural Valley, was arrested on Saturday, October 12, in connection with the death of David Ewing Kimberly, 56, also from Rural Valley. Weiland faces charges including criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and making false reports to law enforcement.

According to police, Kimberly was reported missing on September 28 after family members became concerned when they hadn’t heard from him. Kimberly’s wife told investigators he had left their residence on September 23 with some belongings after she had asked for a divorce.

After an extensive investigation, police located Kimberly’s van in a wooded area near his residence on October 12. The vehicle had been altered in an apparent attempt to conceal its location.

During questioning, Weiland reportedly confessed to shooting Kimberly at a residence on Reefer Hollow Road in Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County. He then allegedly moved the body to a remote location in Jefferson County, where it was later recovered by state troopers.

Weiland is currently being held in Armstrong County Jail awaiting arraignment.

The investigation is ongoing.
