PennDOT Gives Update on Impacts of Tropical Storm Debby in the North Central Region

As the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby continues to impact the state, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers in its North Central Region of the impacts on local roadways:

As of 2 p.m., there were 19 full road closures in the region consisting of Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin and Potter counties.

In some instances, the roadways are closed because the water level reached the underside of a bridge and PennDOT must perform inspections of those structures before reopening them.

Those instances are noted in boldface. This list of closures is as follows:

Cameron County

Centre County

Clearfield County

Elk County

Juniata County

Mifflin County

Potter County

PennDOT also cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.

Motorists are encouraged to “Know Before They Go” by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com.

511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts.
