HYDE –The Clearfield baseball team’s Senior Night took place Thursday. Clearfield picked up a win at their final home game, outscoring Hollidaysburg 5-2. Hollidaysburg dropped to 12-6, while the Bison went back over .500 at 9-8.
Hunter Rumsky started for the Bison. Hollidaysburg had the freshman Vince Boland on the mound.
The top of the first inning began looking rough early for the Bison. A single from Hollidaysburg’s Ethan Karageanes, along with a pair of walks issued by Clearfield loaded the bases with no outs. Drew Banks walked for Hollidaysburg to bring home the first run and kept the bases loaded, 1-0 Hollidaysburg. Rumsky took control for the rest of the inning and struck out three in a row with the bases loaded to keep the Bison’s deficit at 1-0.
Clearfield answered in the bottom of the first. Anthony Lopez walked for Clearfield before Hayvin Bumbarger doubled to give the Bison a run and make the score even at one.
Both sides bats went quiet for a couple innings, and the game stayed 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth.
Clearfield’s Derrick Miksell and Elijah Quick hit back-to-back singles, before Cole Bloom reached first after being hit by a pitch. Lopez came up for the Bison and walked on four pitches to give Clearfield a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hayvin Bumbarger was walked for the Bison and then pitch ran for by Hayden Rumsky. Rumsky made it to third, and all the way home on a pair of wild pitches and gave Clearfield a big insurance run, 3-1. Cole Bloom came up later that inning with the bases loaded, he gave the Bison two more runs with an RBI single, 5-1 Clearfield.
Craig Mays threw three scoreless innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, before Elijah Quick was brought in to shut the door.
Hollidaysburg’s Jake Hilman’s fielder’s choice gave them a run, but no more reached the plate and Clearfield took down Hollidaysburg 5-2.
Clearfield (9-8) will play Bradford in the District 9 AAAA semifinals at Showers Field on Tuesday at 4:30.
