MORRISDALE — The Curwensville Golden Tide football team started the season off 0-3 as they struggled offensively scoring six, zero, and then seven points. Since that time, led by senior quarterback Tyler Dunn, the Tide have lit up the scoreboard putting up 52, then 28 points two weeks in a row to go 2-1 over that three game span, upping their record to 2-4 after a 28-16 win over the West Branch Warriors, who dropped to 0-6 on the season.
Another big night for Dunn, this time with his feet, as he ran for 249 yards overall, with three touchdown runs in the first half alone.
Sandwiched around lost fumbles on their first and third possessions under wet field conditions, Dunn scrambled for a 71-yard touchdown run on the Tide’s second chance with the ball and the ever steady Everett Addleman tacked on his first of four PATs on the night to give the Tide a 7-0 lead that held up through the end of the opening quarter.
Dunn bettered that earlier long run with a 96-yard scoring dash early in the second set of 12 minutes, putting the visitors up 14-0.
West Branch fired right back with a Conner Danko to Coby Kephart 65-yard scoring strike, then added a 2-point conversion to make the score 14-8.
However, the Tide answered before the halftime break, making it 21-8 after Dunn ran for his third touchdown, this one a 26 yarder with about four minutes remaining on the clock.
Each team had a long drive in the third quarter, but neither could put points on the board, and it was still just a two-possession lead for the Tide as the game headed to the final set of 12 minutes.
An Andrew Pentz 3-yard touchdown run sealed the deal, with Addlemans’ extra point making it 28-8 with about eight minutes remaining.
There was no quit in the Warriors on their Homecoming Game as they went on a 90-yard scoring drive, that took up a lot of clock time, cutting the lead to 28-16 after the successful 2-point conversion. The touchdown coming on a 7-yard Danko to Gavin Dunlap pass.
With only around a minute remaining in the game, West Branch tried an on-side kick, but the Tide managed to recover and quickly run out the clock.
Dunn also threw for over 100 yards, while Danko ran for 125 and passed for 152.
Next week the Tide will host a rare Saturday night game as the surging Moshannon Valley Black Knights (4-2), riding a 4-game win streak will invade Andy Evanko Stadium for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
