Aughenbaugh Wins ICC Tourney Title; Curwensville 7th

CLAYSBURG — The Curwensville Golden Tide wrestling team finished in the middle of the pack, placing seventh out of 14 teams, at the season opening Inter-County Conference Tournament at Claysburg-Kimmel High School.

Senior Logan Aughenbaugh (32-11 a year ago) went 4-0 with four pins, three of which were of the first period variety, to claim the 189 pound title. In the championship finals he pinned Eion Snider of Northern Bedford in 1:13.

The Tide had two other place winners in 107 pounder Austin Gilliland and 215 pounder Heath Hawkins. They both placed fourth, Hawkins doing so after winning three consolation bouts after losing in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Tide grapplers went 23-26 overall for the tourney, including a stellar 6-0 in the third round of consolations.

Falling one win short of placing in the top-4 were Noah Pentz at 121, Owen Shaffer at 145, Ryder Kuklinskie at 152, Alex Murawski at 172, and Trenton Guiher at 215.

Mount Union edged Berlin Brothersvalley 159 to 152.5 for the ICC team title.

The Tide are back in action on Thursday when they travel back to Claysburg to face Claysburg-Kimmel in their first dual meet of the season. The Bulldogs placed 11th in the ICC tourney.
