Sandy Twp. Expects Poll Results on Proposed Consolidation May 21

DUBOIS – A poll on the proposed consolidation of Sandy Township and DuBois City was discussed at Monday night’s supervisors’ meeting.

Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh said the poll is being conducted to gauge the public’s support of or opposition to the consolidation proposal.

Township officials expect to receive the poll results on Friday, May 21, according to Arbaugh.

In other business, the supervisors unanimously approved a fire hydrant agreement with Aqua Pennsylvania, which was tabled during the previous meeting.

Since then, Aqua provided the township with additional information on its fire hydrant maintenance procedures.

Initially, plans are for the installation of 50 fire hydrants and to later expand to 100 fire hydrants in Treasure Lake.

The supervisors also awarded three, two-year towing services agreements that will be effective on June 1.

Bigler Boyz was contracted for heavy towing jobs while Zimmerman Towing and Mothman Towing will rotate on light to medium towing jobs.

The supervisors plan to seek grant funds through the state Department of Community & Economic Development for a sidewalk project along the northern side of Maple Avenue.

The sidewalk will continue north to the Shaffer Road intersection, and future projects could extend it to other points of interest.

The township also granted a stormwater waiver to DuBois City at the wastewater treatment plant site.

Arbaugh explained that the city currently lacks run-off space from its new access road.  Long-term, he said, plans are to increase the run-off basin to accommodate the runoff.
