HARRISBURG – State Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and state Rep. Mike Armanini (R-Clearfield/Elk) are pleased to announce the awarding of more than $2.7 million in grants through a pair of state government programs.

“The Local Share Account (LSA) and the Public School Facility Improvement Grant programs are both examples of good stewardship of taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars being put to use as investments in our communities,” Armanini said.

“I’m glad to see this funding support everything from school safety to basic infrastructure needs and applaud the recipients for being proactive in pursuing these highly competitive grants.”

“With so many hard-working families struggling with ever-rising costs and inflation, I am pleased to have played a role in securing this highly competitive funding for the citizens I serve in Elk County,” said Dush.

“These grants are important investments in the safety and quality of life for residents of all ages. Securing this highly competitive funding is a huge win for even more homeowners, employers, schools and farmers who will not have to bear the economic burden for millions of dollars of critical infrastructure upgrades.”

The LSA grant recipients include:

  • Benezette Township – $172,500 for construction of a public restroom facility.
  • Jay Township – $32,500 for the purchase of two septic grinder pumps.
  • Johnsonburg Municipal Authority – $104,275 for a waterline replacement project.
  • St. Marys Area Economic Development Corporation – $700,000 for development of the property at 129 N. Michael St.
  • City of St. Marys – $438,000 for improvements to seating and park amenities.

The LSA grants, which are derived from gaming revenues, were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.

The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program is administered by the CFA and funded in the state budget. Those grant recipients are:

  • Johnsonburg Area School District – two grants totaling $795,000 for a roof replacement project at Johnsonburg Elementary School and an HVAC project at Johnsonburg Area High School.
  • Ridgway Area School District – $500,000 for a safety upgrade to the middle school/high school entrance.
