DUBOIS – DuBois City Council is moving forward in the process to obtain loans for planned water/sewer projects as well as to effectuate water/sewer rate increases.
At Monday night’s regular meeting, council voted to approve the first readings of four different ordinances.
Two ordinances are related to loans the city will take out to help cover costs for planned water/sewer projects. The remaining two are related to the proposed water/sewer rate increases.
It was noted that the Nextier loan was capped to not exceed $4.5 million for water system projects.
Funds will be used for the Maple Avenue waterline and various other projects at the water treatment plant that’s over 60 years old.
“This is just some of the things that come with an older plant. It’s not just an older plant, but also an older system,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.
Council said a second loan will cover preliminary and final engineering designs for construction of a new sewage treatment plant. This loan, through S&T Bank, is not to exceed $3.5 million.
Public hearings on all four ordinances will be held at 6:40 p.m. Aug. 24 before the regular city council meeting.
In other business, council voted to approve a conditional use permit for new construction at 300 Daly St., and All Washed Up Car Wash was authorized to demolish and build a new structure.
