CLEARFIELD – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 2 Executive Thomas Prestash has offered an update on state-wide transportation progress and highlighted this year’s active and completed projects in Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin and Potter counties.
There were approximately 163 roadway miles paved and 28 bridges rehabilitated, repaired or replaced by PennDOT and private-industry teams during the 2024 construction season in the nine-county PennDOT region.
Additionally, nearly 460 miles were seal coated to preserve roadway surfaces and nearly 9,609 line miles were painted.
“Maintaining a safe and efficient network of highways and bridges is critical to the economic wellbeing of Pennsylvania,” said Prestash.
“The Shapiro Administration’s continued investments allow PennDOT to maintain and expand our transportation infrastructure thus spurring our local economy and enhancing safety for Pennsylvania drivers.”
State-wide from January through October, 5,385 roadway miles were improved, including 1,941 miles of paving. In the same timeframe, work advanced on 401 state- and locally-owned bridges.
Additionally, 356 construction contracts for highway, bridge and other improvement projects were completed state-wide through PennDOT’s private-sector partners so far this year.
Since taking office, Gov. Josh Shapiro has secured over $300 million in new infrastructure funding to maintain Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges – reducing the Pennsylvania State Police’s reliance on the Motor License Fund, delivering more funding for transportation while ensuring our law enforcement officers are sustainably funded.
Notable projects completed in District 2 in 2024 include:
Cameron County
- Highway restoration along Route 120 and Route 872; $659,000; anticipated completion in November 2024.
Centre County
- Highway restoration and drainage of Atherton Street (Route 3014) in State College; $30 million ($2.5 million coming from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law).
Clearfield County
- Highway restoration and high friction surface treatment on Route 153 in Huston Township; $5.7 million; anticipated completion in January 2025.
Clinton County
- Highway restoration on Route 1001 in Woodward Township; $7.4 million.
Elk County
- Highway restoration on Route 219 from Ridgway to Johnsonburg; $3.2 million.
Juniata County
- Highway restoration and drainage upgrades on Route 35 in Fermanagh Township; $4.5 million.
- Bridge preservation on Route 22 in Fermanagh and Walker Townships; $11.6 million.
McKean County
- Highway restoration on Route 646 between Ormsby and Cyclone; $4.9 million.
Mifflin County
- Highway restoration on Route 522 in Lewistown Borough, Derry, and Decatur townships; $6.9 million.
Potter County
- Bridge preservation on Peet Brook Road (Route 4011) and Shay Town/Sunny Side Road (Route 4017) in Hebron and Roulette townships; $4.1 million.

Cameron County
- County-wide guiderail replacement project; $545,000; anticipated completion in March 2026.
Centre County
- New interchange construction between Interstate 80 & 99 in Boggs, Spring, and Marion townships; $259 million; anticipated completion in September 2030.
- Highway restoration on Route 26, near I-80 Exit 161 to Shay Lane in Marion Township; $6.9 million; anticipated completion in Summer 2026.
Clearfield County
- Highway and bridge preservation on I-80 between mile markers 96 and 119 in Clearfield County; $ 57.7 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
Clinton County
- Bridge replacement on Route 220 over McElhattan Creek; $2.5 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
Elk County
- Highway restoration on Route 219 between Johnsonburg and Wilcox; $2.8 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
Juniata County
- Bridge replacement on Route 22 over Platt Hollow Road; $4.9 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
McKean County
- Bridge replacement on Route 346 over Tram Hollow Run; $2 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
- Bridge replacement on Route 346 over Gates Hollow Run; $1.2 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
Mifflin County
- Bridge replacement on Route 22 over a branch Long Hollow Run; $1.6 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
- Bridge replacement on Route 22 over Long Hollow Run; $1.5 million; anticipated completion in November 2025.
Potter County
- Bridge replacement on Mille Street (Route 1022) over Pine Creek; $3.2 million; anticipated completion in November 2024.
- Bridge superstructure replacement on Route 244 over Oswayo Creek; $2 million; anticipated completion in October 2025.
